Call to scrap tax for landlords

RICS has claimed that as many as 100,000 private tenants would have the chance to buy their homes if the government reformed capital gains tax to boost home ownership. RICS argues that the current system, which sees buy-to-let investors liable for CGT when they sell property, discourages many landlords from putting their properties on the market. It believes that if only a fraction of the country"s 3.8m private landlords were given an incentive to sell to existing tenants at affordable rates, 100,000 new homes could be released on to the market.
