The Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) has published a briefing note issued by HMRC on professional subscriptions and job related expenses say Harris & Co accountants Northampton #accountantsnorthampton

According to the briefing note, HMRC will be writing to a sample of group of around 4,000 people throughout November –December 2014 to find out if the information they hold about these individuals’ professional subscriptions or job related expenses, is still correct.

Currently, once an individual declares that they pay a professional subscription or claim for job related expenses, HMRC assume they continue to do so every year and apply these to their tax code. This survey will help HMRC determine whether taxpayer behaviour is changing and whether their processes need to be reviewed to reflect this.
