HMRC toughens cryptocurrency scrutiny While those under investigation for suspected tax irregularities have always had to declare all their assets, HMRC has responded to the surge in cryptocurrency wealth by including a section on cryptocurrency declarations in its updated Statement of Assets form. Helen Thornley, a technical officer at the Association of Taxation Technicians, believes the move to explicitly include crypto assets in the form “makes sense”, saying it is important people were given a “prompt” to remember to declare assets such as Bitcoin.
