 Self-employed face potential tax changes

The Times reveals that Philip Hammond will use his budget next week to announce plans to overhaul the tax system for the self-employed. The Treasury reportedly believes that there is a strong case to tackle the growing disparity between workers who pay tax using PAYE, the self-employed and those using personal service companies. The Chancellor is expected to say that there will be changes to self-employed taxation in the autumn budget and is likely to announce a consultation. He may also reveal some immediate changes to self-employment rules, although Whitehall sources have told the paper that this issue has not yet been settled. Back in November, Mr Hammond made it clear that a consultation on the tax treatment of different individuals was in the pipeline.
