 Pensioners pay 11% of the UK"s income tax

Over-65s contribute more than £17.5bn to the £157bn total tax income, according to Prudential. The average annual bill for pensioners is £3,258 with those in London paying most, at £8,386 on average, while those in Wales pay least, at £1,795. In Scotland the average is £2,855, while in Northern Ireland it is £2,824 report Harris & Co chartered accountants Northampton. Prudential"s Stan Russell said: “Just because someone has retired from work it doesn"t mean that they have retired from paying tax, so taking into account the impact on retirement income is an important part of planning for a comfortable retirement.”
