Hundreds more BBC presenters face tax probes A report from the National Audit Office reveals that an additional 800 BBC presenters could face investigations over their employment status with nearly 300 of them said to have been hired through personal service companies. HMRC has already opened approximately 100 investigations into the use of the special tax vehicles by BBC staff with many pursued for unpaid tax bills. The NAO found that more than £688m was paid to BBC freelancers through PSCs between 2011 and 2018 and that 92% of on-air freelancers whose status was recently reviewed by the BBC were "employed for tax purposes determination". Meg Hillier, the chair of the public accounts committee, said: "It is worrying that, six years on, the mess of clarifying the employment status for tax purposes of people the BBC hires through PSCs has not been fully untangled."
