Research by the TaxPayers’ Alliance reveals the average household will pay more than £826,000 tax over a lifetime – the equivalent of more than 20 years’ income. The group calculated the direct and indirect taxes paid by a family with average household earnings of £41,027 a year, over a working life of 44 years plus 15 years in retirement.
