Pressure Mounts On Government To Change Finance Act
The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) pressured the government to extend legal privileges to tax accountants dealing with their clients, reports Harris & Co Chartered Accountants Northampton. This attempt however was unsuccessful after five of seven supreme court judges ruled against it.
It came out that parliament has to decide whether to extend laws in the area. Some feel it is a fundamental human right that has to be resolved by parliament rather than the courts. However, the pressure continues to mount on the government as the ICAEW refuses to back down from this fight for change in the financial act.
