Phil headed to Wales full of expectation ahead of the second round of the Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship. Driving the No #89 Harris & Co-supported Mini Cooper during the Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship on the Viking Motorsport/Links Electrical Mid Wales Stages where Phil was once again joined by co-driver Alan Walker.

It was the first time competing in the Mid Wales Rally for Phil, and the treacherous weather conditions of rain, snow and wind proved to be a challenge. Despite the challenges, Phil drove well to finish the day and cross the finish line to record a first in class and seventh overall position in Category 1.

Said Phil “The 16 mile stage 3 was always going to be the hardest of the event. We drove it quite well until about a mile from the end when the car slid wide under braking and nose-dived into a mud bank. It was a remote part of the stage but luckily some spectators were not too far away and they walked up the stage to the car. Together with my co-driver Alan Walker, they were able to lift the car out of the ditch, and we were back on the road having dropped several minutes. Once back to service we discovered that the steering was damaged, and we had a puncture. The RSR Historic Engineering team quickly fixed it, and we were able to complete the final stage. That was a relief and stage 4 was a joy to drive. Despite a slightly bent steering, we drove well in the final stage, and I am delighted at being able to finish the second event of the year.”
